<h1 class="wp-block-heading">FOOT PAIN FROM WORK SAFETY SHOES&nbsp;</h1>

<p><strong>Work safety boots</strong>&nbsp;are essential to protect our feet from&nbsp;<strong>occupational hazards</strong>&nbsp;and play an important role&nbsp;in many&nbsp;labor jobs.</p>

<p>Most safety boots are&nbsp;<strong>heavy</strong>, with reinforced tips that shield against potential damage to the toes. The&nbsp;<strong>soles</strong>&nbsp;are reinforced to protect against&nbsp;<strong>potential sharp objects</strong>&nbsp;on the ground from piercing the feet.</p>

<p>Commonly available work safety boots are often found to be inadequate footwear for <strong>long term</strong> well-being of the feet and have been proven to lead to developing <strong>pain</strong> and <strong>discomfort</strong> in the heel.</p>

<p>Chronic cases can lead to the formation of <strong>painful bone growths</strong> like heel spurs and other conditions. A patient can often experience pain and discomfort as a result and their quality of life suffers. </p>

<h1 class="wp-block-heading">CAUSES OF FOOT PAIN FROM WORK SAFETY BOOTS</h1>

<p>Foot pain is a relatively common side-effect of long-term use of commonly made work boots. The condition is a direct result of overloading the feet due to excessive strain. Some of the most commonly known risk factors include:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>UNCOMFORTABLE WORK SAFETY BOOTS</strong>
<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Commonly made work safety footwear is the leading cause of pain in manual laborers. This happens because the rigid and solid material meant to shield from work-related accidents ends up severely restricting the natural movement of the feet and the joints.</li>

<li>The shoes encourage unhealthy proprioception that exerts unnatural and excessive pressure on the feet. In the long run, this can lead to developing complications in the feet that lead to<strong> persistent sharp pain</strong> and discomfort.</li>
</ul>
</li>

<li><strong>THE LEVEL OF INTENSITY INVOLVED IN THE OCCUPATION</strong>
<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>It is noted that the stress on the feet is proportional to the progression of the condition.</li>

<li>The more intense the physical labor or the longer the time spent in uncomfortable work safety boots, the higher the chances of developing symptoms and progressing degeneration.</li>

<li>Many worksites where people are on their feet all day are where this occurs more frequently.</li>
</ul>
</li>

<li>Unhealthy Proprioception exacerbates the strain on the ankle.</li>

<li><strong>Inherent malformations</strong> in the feet and certain other hereditary factors can make certain patients especially vulnerable.</li>
</ul>

<h1 class="wp-block-heading">FOOT PAIN DUE TO WORK SAFETY SHOE SYMPTOMS</h1>

<p>The symptoms of the condition typically depend on the progression of the disease. In most cases a patient suffering from this condition experiences:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Pain in one or both feet. Episodic pain is common after long periods of inactivity. Especially the morning after a long night’s sleep. The pain subsides over the day, but the condition may remain hidden until the symptoms get much worse.</li>

<li>The skin in the surrounding area may become irritated and turn red. There is usually some associated swelling in the feet and general discomfort.</li>
</ul>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="480" height="480" src="https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-ergopad-work-safety-shoes-plastic-insoles-working2-web_large.jpg?resize=480%2C480&#038;ssl=1" alt="foot pain work shoes" class="wp-image-28286" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-ergopad-work-safety-shoes-plastic-insoles-working2-web_large.jpg?w=480&amp;ssl=1 480w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-ergopad-work-safety-shoes-plastic-insoles-working2-web_large.jpg?resize=300%2C300&amp;ssl=1 300w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-ergopad-work-safety-shoes-plastic-insoles-working2-web_large.jpg?resize=150%2C150&amp;ssl=1 150w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-ergopad-work-safety-shoes-plastic-insoles-working2-web_large.jpg?resize=430%2C430&amp;ssl=1 430w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-ergopad-work-safety-shoes-plastic-insoles-working2-web_large.jpg?resize=50%2C50&amp;ssl=1 50w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-ergopad-work-safety-shoes-plastic-insoles-working2-web_large.jpg?resize=100%2C100&amp;ssl=1 100w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-ergopad-work-safety-shoes-plastic-insoles-working2-web_large.jpg?resize=96%2C96&amp;ssl=1 96w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-ergopad-work-safety-shoes-plastic-insoles-working2-web_large.jpg?resize=460%2C460&amp;ssl=1 460w" sizes="(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px" /></figure>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"></h3>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>CHRONIC CASE SYMPTOMS</strong></h3>

<p>Long term neglect and progression of the disease can result in chronic cases of pain in the foot. There are real risks of developing complications like:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Development of bone growths on the surface of the heel, called <strong>Heel Spurs</strong>. These can be very painful and leads to significant swelling around the heel.</li>

<li>Development of a bulge on the heel bone due to an abnormality in the heel bone and the soft tissue in the feet. This condition is referred to as <strong>Haglund’s syndrome.</strong></li>

<li>Development of inflammation of the tendon plate under the sole of the foot, known as <strong>plantar fasciitis</strong>.</li>
</ul>

<p>Immediate medical treatment is highly advised to prevent the long-term degeneration of the feet. Early diagnosis is the best prognosis!</p>

<h1 class="wp-block-heading">DIAGNOSIS OF FOOT PAIN DUE TO WORK SAFETY SHOES</h1>

<p>An&nbsp;<strong>orthopedic specialist</strong>&nbsp;or&nbsp;<strong>GP</strong>&nbsp;is the&nbsp;<strong>best medical practitioner</strong>&nbsp;to seek advice from when experiencing foot pain. A thorough physical check and patient history help understand the risk factors on an individual basis. In this case, an examination of a patient’s occupation can be valuable.</p>

<p>Sophisticated imaging technology like&nbsp;<strong>X-rays</strong>&nbsp;can be used to determine the location and progression of the bone growths on the heel bone or diagnose Haglund’s syndrome. Together this information can help form an effective prognosis.</p>

<h1 class="wp-block-heading">FOOT PAIN &#8211; WORK SAFETY BOOTS&nbsp;TREATMENT</h1>

<p>Treatment for pain in the foot is mostly conservative and is centered around alleviating the symptoms and taking measures to prevent the progression of the condition.</p>

<p>The level of treatment mainly depends on the progression of the symptoms and a study of the complications caused by the disease. Some of the more useful and effective ways to manage the condition include:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><em>LIFESTYLE CHANGES TO RELIEVE THE FOOT</em>
<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>It is crucial to relieve the foot from the excess strain it is under. Well, fit work boots along with special socks that provide heel support (Training compression socks) can help provide support and relief to the heel.</li>

<li>Reducing your <strong>body weight</strong> and combating obesity help to reduce the weight on your feet and greatly reduces the strain on the heel bone. Initially, a change to a healthier diet and later controlled physiotherapy can provide wonderful results.</li>
</ul>
</li>

<li><em>PRESCRIBED MEDICATION</em>
<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>When there is significant inflammation in the feet, patients may find it very beneficial to use prescribed <strong>anti-inflammatory</strong> and analgesics. mild cases are often managed conservatively with cooling and ice packs and mild anti-inflammatories to manage the swelling temporarily.</li>

<li>In advanced patients with chronic symptoms, local injections of Cortisone are more effective.</li>
</ul>
</li>

<li><em>PHYSIOTHERAPY EXERCISES</em>
<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>It is highly recommended that the muscles in the calf and foot are regularly exercised to build strength.</li>

<li>Developing these muscles can help reduce the stress on the bone as well as combat the progression of the condition. Multiple sessions a day for a few months can rapidly improve a patient’s prognosis.</li>
</ul>
</li>

<li><em>MEDICAL ORTHOPEDIC INSOLES</em>
<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Optimally shaped medical orthopedic work safety shoe inserts are very effective as both a preventative measure and to slow down the degeneration of the Calcaneus (heel bone).</li>

<li>The <a href="https://www.bauerfeind.com.au/collections/medical-insoles" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">ins</a>o<a href="https://www.bauerfeind.com.au/collections/medical-insoles" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">les</a> help protect the foot from excess stress as well as encourage the natural movement of the foot. The insoles can also serve as a comfortable cushion for patients with inherent malformations in the structure of the foot.</li>

</ul>

<p><em>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Making of the Bauerfeind medical shoe insoles</em></p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><em>SURGICAL INTERVENTION</em>
<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Only in rare cases of heel spurs or advanced Haglund’s syndrome does surgery become necessary. Most cases of the condition are managed conservatively.</li>

<li>Some patients might require surgery to correct the excess bone growth or correct the bulge to restore structure and mobility to the foot. However, surgery is a risky procedure and is usually the last resort to provide relief to a patient.</li>

<h1 class="wp-block-heading">WHAT IS A HEEL SPUR?</h1>

<p>The&nbsp;<strong>heel bone</strong>&nbsp;(known as the calcaneus) is the largest bone in the foot and performs crucial functions in our everyday life. The bone is anatomically structured to bear the weight of our body and optimized&nbsp;to evenly distribute that weight when walking/running, on either even or uneven surfaces.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>Some patients can develop&nbsp;<strong>small bone growths</strong>&nbsp;on the heel, more commonly known as Heel Spurs. Mild cases can go undetected for long periods of time before clear symptoms become present.</p>

<p>However,&nbsp;<strong>long term wear and tear</strong>&nbsp;can lead to the patient developing severe pain and discomfort. In chronic cases this pain is unbearable, and a patient’s mobility is severely restricted.</p>

<p>There are serious consequences to a patient’s quality of life when this happens. More invasive i.e. non-surgical intervention may become necessary to alleviate symptoms.</p>

<h1 class="wp-block-heading">HEEL SPUR CAUSES</h1>

<p>A heel spur is a bony extension on the heel bone, the largest bone of the foot. The condition is a direct result of overloading the heel. There are several main factors that contribute to the development of this degenerative disease, including:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>INTENSE PHYSICAL STRAIN ON THE FEET</li>
</ul>

<p>Occupations that involve long hours of standing or walking around (e.g. people working in retail, warehouses) can lead to overloading on the feet. People whose jobs involve a rigid posture of the foot, like machine operators in warehouses and factories are particularly vulnerable.</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>FOOTWEAR</li>
</ul>

<p>Incorrect footwear or wearing poorly fitted shoes can lead to uneven load distribution on the feet. In the long run, this increases the risk of wear and tear and the development of heel spurs.</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>High-intensity sporting activities</strong> that place an excess load on the feet, such as rugby, tennis and running. Unhealthy proprioception can exacerbate the risk.</li>

<li>Pre-existing conditions like <strong>Rheumatism and inherent malformations</strong> in the structure of the feet increase the risk of degeneration.</li>
</ul>

<h1 class="wp-block-heading">HEEL SPUR SYMPTOMS</h1>

<p>Long term wear and tear of the foot due to constant overloading and excess stress leads to&nbsp;<strong>inflammation of the heel bone</strong>. The body naturally reacts by&nbsp;<strong>creating calcium deposits</strong>&nbsp;in the inflamed area.</p>

<p>As the disease progresses the calcium deposits form bony structures. These heel spurs often have a wide variety of associated symptoms. Some of them include:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>A patient experiences some <strong>discomfort</strong> and <strong>slight pain in the heel</strong>. In mild cases when the growths first begin to appear, these symptoms are minute and are very manageable at this point, often resulting in a delayed diagnosis.</li>

<li>Slight pain in the heel is common in the morning or after long periods of inactivity. This is known as <strong>“start-up” pain</strong>. The symptoms tend to disappear over the day.</li>

<li>Heel Spur is a degenerative disease of the heel bone (Calcaneus). As the disease progresses the symptoms tend to become amplified, with the patient’s pain more pronounced and persistent throughout the day.</li>

<li>The skin surrounding the affected heel begins to feel sore and becomes red. </li>

<li>In the long run, a patient’s mobility is severely <strong>restricted</strong>. There is a sharp pain in the heel even without any pressure on it.</li>
</ul>

<p><em>*NOTE: Most patients with heel spurs are on average between 40 and 60 years old. The condition is more common in men than in women.</em></p>

<h1 class="wp-block-heading">DIAGNOSIS OF HEEL SPURS</h1>

<p>An orthopedic&nbsp;specialist is the best&nbsp;<strong>medical practitioner</strong>&nbsp;to seek advice when suspecting heel spurs.</p>

<p>A thorough physical inspection and patient history help the doctor to understand the risk factors on an individual basis.</p>

<p>Imaging technology such as&nbsp;<strong>X-rays</strong>&nbsp;can be used to determine the location and progression of the bone growths on the heel bone.&nbsp;Together this information can help form an effective prognosis and treatment plan.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="480" height="480" src="https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-ergopad-redux-heel-plastic-insoles-daily-life3-web_large-1.jpg?resize=480%2C480&#038;ssl=1" alt="heel cushion heel spur" class="wp-image-28273" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-ergopad-redux-heel-plastic-insoles-daily-life3-web_large-1.jpg?w=480&amp;ssl=1 480w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-ergopad-redux-heel-plastic-insoles-daily-life3-web_large-1.jpg?resize=300%2C300&amp;ssl=1 300w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-ergopad-redux-heel-plastic-insoles-daily-life3-web_large-1.jpg?resize=150%2C150&amp;ssl=1 150w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-ergopad-redux-heel-plastic-insoles-daily-life3-web_large-1.jpg?resize=430%2C430&amp;ssl=1 430w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-ergopad-redux-heel-plastic-insoles-daily-life3-web_large-1.jpg?resize=50%2C50&amp;ssl=1 50w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-ergopad-redux-heel-plastic-insoles-daily-life3-web_large-1.jpg?resize=100%2C100&amp;ssl=1 100w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-ergopad-redux-heel-plastic-insoles-daily-life3-web_large-1.jpg?resize=96%2C96&amp;ssl=1 96w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-ergopad-redux-heel-plastic-insoles-daily-life3-web_large-1.jpg?resize=460%2C460&amp;ssl=1 460w" sizes="(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px" /></figure>

<h1 class="wp-block-heading">HEEL SPUR TREATMENT</h1>

<p>Treatment for heel spur is centered&nbsp;around alleviating the symptoms and taking measures to prevent the progression of the condition. A useful guide that has been proven effective is:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><em>RELIEVE THE FOOT</em></li>
</ul>

<p>It is crucial to relieve the foot from the&nbsp;<strong>excess stress</strong>&nbsp;it is under throughout the day. Wearing comfortable and&nbsp;<strong>well-padded shoes</strong>&nbsp;on a daily basis helps provide ample support and prevent undue stress on the foot.</p>

<p>Sturdy footwear can also help one to practice healthy proprioception, which has long term benefits.</p>

<p>Reducing your body weight and<strong>&nbsp;combating obesity</strong>&nbsp;helps reduce the load on the feet and greatly reduces the strain on the heel bone.</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><em>PRESCRIBED MEDICATION</em></li>
</ul>

<p>If there is significant&nbsp;<strong>inflammation</strong>&nbsp;in the feet, patients often find the use of prescribed anti-inflammatory and analgesics beneficial when directed by their doctor for temporary relief.</p>

<p>Mild cases are often managed conservatively with drug therapy. In advanced patients with chronic symptoms, local injections are more effective but often uncomfortable.</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><em>PHYSIOTHERAPY EXERCISES</em></li>
</ul>

<p>It is highly recommended that the muscles in the calf and foot are regularly exercised to build strength.</p>

<p><strong>Developing these muscles</strong>&nbsp;can help reduce the stress on the bone as well as combat the progression of the condition. Multiple sessions a day for a few months can rapidly improve a patient’s prognosis.</p>

<p>Practicing&nbsp;<strong>healthy proprioception</strong>&nbsp;and prioritizing&nbsp;a good warm-up before any training can go a long way in recovery.</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><em>MEDICAL ORTHOPEDIC INSOLES</em></li>
</ul>

<p>Optimally shaped medical&nbsp;insoles are very effective as both a&nbsp;<strong>preventative measure</strong>&nbsp;and to slow down the degeneration of the Calcaneus (heel bone).</p>

<p>The insoles help protect the foot from&nbsp;<strong>excess stress,</strong>&nbsp;as well as any unnatural movements beyond the natural range of motion, i.e. against overloading and over-stretching.</p>

<p>The insoles can also serve as a comfortable cushion for patients with inherent malformations in the structure of the foot.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="320" height="480" src="https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-consulting-ergopad-redux-hallux-print_large-1.jpg?resize=320%2C480&#038;ssl=1" alt="heel spur treatment" class="wp-image-28276" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-consulting-ergopad-redux-hallux-print_large-1.jpg?w=320&amp;ssl=1 320w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-consulting-ergopad-redux-hallux-print_large-1.jpg?resize=200%2C300&amp;ssl=1 200w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-consulting-ergopad-redux-hallux-print_large-1.jpg?resize=150%2C225&amp;ssl=1 150w" sizes="(max-width: 320px) 100vw, 320px" /></figure>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><em>SURGICAL INTERVENTION</em></li>
</ul>

<p>Only in rare cases of heel spurs does surgery become necessary. Most cases of the condition are managed conservatively. Some patients might require surgery to correct the excess bone growth to restore structure and mobility to the foot. Surgery is a<strong>&nbsp;risky procedure</strong>&nbsp;and is usually the last resort to provide relief to a patient.</p>

<h1 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>HOW TO GET RID OF HEEL SPURS?&nbsp;</strong></h1>

<p>Medical shoe insoles like the ErgoPad Redux Heel 2 and the <a href="https://www.bauerfeind.com.au/products/viscospot-heel-cushion" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">ViscoSpot Heel Cushion</a> can work wonders to alleviate the symptoms and pain of heel spurs. Both insoles are flexible and slimline, incorporating a recess in the heel. This takes the pressure off the affected area and helps <strong>relieve pain and discomfort.</strong></p>

<p>The ErgoPad Redux Heel 2 utilises a <strong>special foam padding system</strong> in conjunction with a spring system to take all pressure off the heel, with a met-dome and gentle arch support helping guide the foot to prevent further deterioration.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="480" height="480" src="https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-ergopad-redux-heel-2-frost-green-plastic-insoles-free-web-gb_large-1.jpg?resize=480%2C480&#038;ssl=1" alt="heel spur insole" class="wp-image-28274" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-ergopad-redux-heel-2-frost-green-plastic-insoles-free-web-gb_large-1.jpg?w=480&amp;ssl=1 480w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-ergopad-redux-heel-2-frost-green-plastic-insoles-free-web-gb_large-1.jpg?resize=300%2C300&amp;ssl=1 300w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-ergopad-redux-heel-2-frost-green-plastic-insoles-free-web-gb_large-1.jpg?resize=150%2C150&amp;ssl=1 150w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-ergopad-redux-heel-2-frost-green-plastic-insoles-free-web-gb_large-1.jpg?resize=430%2C430&amp;ssl=1 430w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-ergopad-redux-heel-2-frost-green-plastic-insoles-free-web-gb_large-1.jpg?resize=50%2C50&amp;ssl=1 50w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-ergopad-redux-heel-2-frost-green-plastic-insoles-free-web-gb_large-1.jpg?resize=100%2C100&amp;ssl=1 100w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-ergopad-redux-heel-2-frost-green-plastic-insoles-free-web-gb_large-1.jpg?resize=96%2C96&amp;ssl=1 96w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-ergopad-redux-heel-2-frost-green-plastic-insoles-free-web-gb_large-1.jpg?resize=460%2C460&amp;ssl=1 460w" sizes="(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px" /></figure>

<p>The ViscoSpot Heel Cushion uses a multi-layered gel of varying densities to cushion the heel in milder cases, which also lifts it to <strong>redistribute pressure</strong> across the stronger parts of the foot. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="480" height="480" src="https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-viscospot-visco-insoles-web-gb_large-2.jpg?resize=480%2C480&#038;ssl=1" alt="heel insole heel spur treatment" class="wp-image-28275" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-viscospot-visco-insoles-web-gb_large-2.jpg?w=480&amp;ssl=1 480w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-viscospot-visco-insoles-web-gb_large-2.jpg?resize=300%2C300&amp;ssl=1 300w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-viscospot-visco-insoles-web-gb_large-2.jpg?resize=150%2C150&amp;ssl=1 150w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-viscospot-visco-insoles-web-gb_large-2.jpg?resize=430%2C430&amp;ssl=1 430w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-viscospot-visco-insoles-web-gb_large-2.jpg?resize=50%2C50&amp;ssl=1 50w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-viscospot-visco-insoles-web-gb_large-2.jpg?resize=100%2C100&amp;ssl=1 100w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-viscospot-visco-insoles-web-gb_large-2.jpg?resize=96%2C96&amp;ssl=1 96w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-viscospot-visco-insoles-web-gb_large-2.jpg?resize=460%2C460&amp;ssl=1 460w" sizes="(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px" /></figure>

<h1 class="wp-block-heading">WHAT IS HAGLUND’S DEFORMITY?</h1>

<p>Our feet bear the weight of the body and facilitate the transfer of power from our lower legs. The ligaments, tendons and bones in our feet all serve crucial roles that allow for complex movements like standing, walking, running and jumping.</p>

<p><strong>Haglund’s deformity</strong>&nbsp;is most commonly formed from abnormalities in the&nbsp;<strong>bone</strong>&nbsp;and<strong>&nbsp;soft tissues</strong>&nbsp;in the feet. It is a degenerative condition that can lead to painful bony growths at the rear of the heel.</p>

<p>Long term wear and tear of the feet can lead to chronic cases, with patients suffering severe pain and discomfort with their mobility significantly restricted.</p>

<h1 class="wp-block-heading">CAUSES OF HAGLUND’S DEFORMITY</h1>

<p>There are several known factors that contribute to the development of this degenerative disease. Some of them include:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><em><strong>INTENSE PHYSICAL STRAIN ON THE FEET</strong></em></li>
</ul>

<p>Occupations that involve long hours of standing or walking around (e.g. people working in retail, warehouses) can lead to overloading on the feet. People whose jobs involve a rigid posture of the foot, like machine operators in the warehouses and factories are particularly vulnerable.</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><em><strong>FOOTWEAR</strong></em></li>
</ul>

<p>Incorrect footwear or wearing poorly fitted shoes can lead to uneven load distribution on the feet. This is more common in women who wear heels and tight-fitting shoes.&nbsp;</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>High-intensity sporting activities</strong>&nbsp;that place an excess load on the feet, such as&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bauerfeind.com.au/pages/best-ankle-braces-for-tennis" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">tennis</a>, rugby and running. Unhealthy proprioception can exacerbate the risk.</li>

<li><strong>PRE-EXISTING CONDITIONS</strong>
<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Rheumatism and inherent malformations in the structure of the feet bear the risk of degeneration.</li>

<li>For example, a patient might have a hollow foot where the arch of the foot is excessively pronounced, and the toes are curved. This places excess stress on the heel and exacerbates the condition.</li>

<li><strong>Birth Defects</strong>&nbsp;can lead to a slightly bulged heel that increases the risk of Haglund’s syndrome.</li>
</ul>
</li>
</ul>

<h1 class="wp-block-heading">HAGLUND&#8217;S DEFORMITY SYMPTOMS</h1>

<p><strong>Haglund’s deformity syndrome</strong>&nbsp;is a condition affecting the heel bone and the Achilles tendon in the foot. The symptoms of the disease depend on the progression of the condition and tend to get worse with time and age.</p>

<p>Some of the most commonly associated symptoms include:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Development of a&nbsp;<strong>bony bulge</strong>&nbsp;on the surface of the heel bone. The bulge then rubs against the inside of the shoe and causes irritation and discomfort.</li>

<li>Swelling and pain in the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bauerfeind.com.au/pages/best-braces-for-achilles-tendonitis" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><strong>Achilles tendon</strong></a>&nbsp;where the bone is pressing against it.</li>

<li>Mild cases usually involve&nbsp;<strong>episodic pain after long periods of inactivity,</strong>&nbsp;usually after a long night’s sleep or a long workday at a desk. The pain subsides eventually, however, the underlying condition remains. As time passes, the condition progresses and the symptoms get progressively worse.</li>
</ul>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>A patient experiences&nbsp;<strong>a constant sharp pain in the feet</strong>&nbsp;and their mobility is severely restricted. Long term wear and tear and neglect can lead to chronic cases of Haglund’s syndrome.</li>

<li>In some cases,&nbsp;<strong>deposits of calcium</strong>&nbsp;might develop into bony growths on the surface of the heel bone, leading to&nbsp;<strong>heel spurs</strong>.</li>

<h1 class="wp-block-heading">DIAGNOSIS OF HAGLUND’S DEFORMITY</h1>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="394" height="480" src="https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Screenshot_2020-02-19_at_2.30.40_PM_large.png?resize=394%2C480&#038;ssl=1" alt="Man sitting with specialist being diagnosed with haglund's deformity" class="wp-image-28270" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Screenshot_2020-02-19_at_2.30.40_PM_large.png?w=394&amp;ssl=1 394w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Screenshot_2020-02-19_at_2.30.40_PM_large.png?resize=246%2C300&amp;ssl=1 246w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Screenshot_2020-02-19_at_2.30.40_PM_large.png?resize=150%2C183&amp;ssl=1 150w" sizes="(max-width: 394px) 100vw, 394px" /></figure>

<p>An orthopedic specialist or&nbsp;<strong>GP</strong>&nbsp;is the best medical practitioner to seek advice from when suspecting Haglunds Syndrome.</p>

<p>A thorough physical check and patient history help understand the risk factors on an individual basis.</p>

<p>Sophisticated imaging technology like&nbsp;<strong>X-rays</strong>&nbsp;can be used to determine the location and progression of the bone growths in the affected area.</p>

<p>Together this information can help form an effective prognosis.</p>

<h1 class="wp-block-heading">HAGLUND’S DEFORMITY TREATMENT</h1>

<p>Treatment for Haglund’s syndrome is mostly conservative and is centred around alleviating the symptoms and taking measures to prevent the progression of the condition. The most effective treatments include:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><em>LIFESTYLE CHANGES TO RELIEVE THE FOOT</em>
<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>It is crucial to relieve the foot from the excess strain it is under. Well, fit shoes along with special socks that provide&nbsp;<strong>heel support</strong>&nbsp;(Training&nbsp;<strong>compression</strong>&nbsp;<strong>socks</strong>) can help provide support and relief to the heel.</li>

<li>It is highly recommended that all strenuous activities like training and exercise be halted in the short term. This allows the foot to rest and heal over time.</li>

<li>Reducing your body weight and combating obesity help to reduce the weight on your feet and greatly reduces the strain on the heel bone. Initially, a change to a<strong>&nbsp;healthier diet</strong>&nbsp;and later controlled&nbsp;<strong>physiotherapy</strong>&nbsp;can provide wonderful results.</li>
</ul>
</li>

<li><em>PRESCRIBED MEDICATION</em>
<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>When there is significant inflammation in the feet, patients may find it very beneficial to use prescribed anti-inflammatory and analgesics.</li>

<li>Mild cases are often managed conservatively with cooling and ice packs and mild&nbsp;<strong>anti-inflammatories</strong>&nbsp;to manage the swelling</li>

<li>In advanced patients with chronic symptoms, local injections of Cortisone are more effective.</li>
</ul>
</li>

<li><em>PHYSIOTHERAPY EXERCISES</em>
<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>It is highly recommended that the muscles in the calf and foot are regularly exercised to build strength.</li>

<li>Developing these muscles can help reduce the stress on the bone as well as combat the progression of the condition.</li>

<li>Multiple sessions a day for a few months can rapidly improve a patient’s prognosis.</li>

<li>Practising healthy proprioception and prioritizing a good warm-up before any training can go a long way in recovery.</li>
</ul>
</li>
</ul>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="480" height="330" src="https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-rehabilitation-venotrain-cocoon-print_1_large.jpg?resize=480%2C330&#038;ssl=1" alt="Person wearing compression stockings and specialist carrying out haglund's deformity treatment" class="wp-image-28268" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-rehabilitation-venotrain-cocoon-print_1_large.jpg?w=480&amp;ssl=1 480w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-rehabilitation-venotrain-cocoon-print_1_large.jpg?resize=400%2C275&amp;ssl=1 400w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-rehabilitation-venotrain-cocoon-print_1_large.jpg?resize=430%2C296&amp;ssl=1 430w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-rehabilitation-venotrain-cocoon-print_1_large.jpg?resize=150%2C103&amp;ssl=1 150w" sizes="(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px" /></figure>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><em>MEDICAL ORTHOPEDIC SHOE INSERTS</em>
<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Optimally shaped medical Orthopedic&nbsp;shoe inserts/ insoles are very effective as both a preventative measure and to slow down the degeneration of the Calcaneus (heel bone).</li>

<li>The insoles help protect the foot from excess stress, as well as any unnatural movements beyond the natural range of motion, i.e. against overloading and overstretching.</li>

<li>The insoles can also serve as a comfortable cushion for patients with inherent malformations in the structure of the foot.</li>
</ul>
</li>

<li><em>SURGICAL INTERVENTION</em>
<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Only in rare cases of Haglunds Heel does surgery become necessary. Most cases of the condition are managed conservatively.</li>

<li>Some patients might require surgery to correct the excess bone growth to restore structure and mobility to the foot.</li>

<li>Surgery is, however, a risky procedure and is usually the last resort to provide relief to a patient.</li>
</ul>
</li>
</ul>

<h1 class="wp-block-heading">HAGLUND&#8217;S DEFORMITY SHOE INSERTS AND ORTHORTIS&nbsp;</h1>

<p>Medical orthopedic shoe inserts like the ViscoSpot cushion is an effective tool in both preventing the onset of the condition as well as managing the symptoms of Haglund’s syndrome.</p>

<p>The insert acts as a cushion for the heel and relieves it from stress. The&nbsp;<strong>ViscoSpot cushion</strong>&nbsp;is designed to fit snugly inside everyday shoes and prevents the foot from slipping out of the shoe.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="480" height="480" src="https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-viscospot-visco-insoles-web-gb_large-1.jpg?resize=480%2C480&#038;ssl=1" alt="Bauerfeind orthosis shoe inserts for haglund's deformity" class="wp-image-28265" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-viscospot-visco-insoles-web-gb_large-1.jpg?w=480&amp;ssl=1 480w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-viscospot-visco-insoles-web-gb_large-1.jpg?resize=300%2C300&amp;ssl=1 300w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-viscospot-visco-insoles-web-gb_large-1.jpg?resize=150%2C150&amp;ssl=1 150w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-viscospot-visco-insoles-web-gb_large-1.jpg?resize=430%2C430&amp;ssl=1 430w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-viscospot-visco-insoles-web-gb_large-1.jpg?resize=50%2C50&amp;ssl=1 50w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-viscospot-visco-insoles-web-gb_large-1.jpg?resize=100%2C100&amp;ssl=1 100w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-viscospot-visco-insoles-web-gb_large-1.jpg?resize=96%2C96&amp;ssl=1 96w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-viscospot-visco-insoles-web-gb_large-1.jpg?resize=460%2C460&amp;ssl=1 460w" sizes="(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px" /></figure>

<p>Patients using the insert on a regular basis have reported relief from the pain associated with Haglund’s syndrome. The skin-friendly material is easy to clean and very durable, making it perfect for daily use.</p>

<p>Compression garments like the&nbsp;Achillotrain&nbsp;and Training Compression Socks are also excellent in managing the symptoms of Haglund&#8217;s heel, particularly the swelling and pain.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="410" height="480" src="https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-achillotrain-titan-print_large.jpg?resize=410%2C480&#038;ssl=1" alt="Bauerfeind AchilloTrain ankle brace for haglund's deformity treatment" class="wp-image-28266" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-achillotrain-titan-print_large.jpg?w=410&amp;ssl=1 410w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-achillotrain-titan-print_large.jpg?resize=256%2C300&amp;ssl=1 256w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-achillotrain-titan-print_large.jpg?resize=150%2C176&amp;ssl=1 150w" sizes="(max-width: 410px) 100vw, 410px" /></figure>

<p>The&nbsp;<strong>AchilloTrain</strong>&nbsp;provides targeted medical compression around the heel, while a&nbsp;<strong>massaging gel cushion</strong>&nbsp;supports the Achilles tendon in the area most affected by Haglunds Heel. The firm comfortable weave of the fabric combined with the in-built heel cushion makes it suitable for all-day use and the perfect support for such a condition.</p>

<p>For less severe cases, the&nbsp;Training Compression Socks&nbsp;provide a comfortable&nbsp;<strong>medical-grade compression</strong>&nbsp;to help reduce the symptoms in combination with an insole like the ViscoSpot.</p>

<h1 class="wp-block-heading">WHAT IS HEEL&nbsp;PAIN?</h1>

<p>The feet support the body’s weight and facilitates movement. The heel bone (Calcaneus) is the posterior part of our foot and performs crucial functions in our everyday life. This bone is optimized to evenly distribute our body-weight&nbsp;over uneven surfaces.</p>

<p><strong>Excessive stress on the heel</strong>&nbsp;(such as running on hard surfaces) can lead to long term degeneration of the bone. In mild cases, a patient will experience pain in the morning after a long night’s sleep. The pain subsides eventually, and the symptoms disappear.</p>

<p>However, the underlying condition progresses and in chronic cases, this can lead to severely restricted mobility. In some cases, the patient may develop bone growths on the surface of the heel bone, called&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bauerfeind.com.au/blogs/news/heel-spur-treatment" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><strong>heel spurs</strong></a>. Early diagnosis is the best approach to this, and initial symptoms should not be neglected.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="600" height="180" src="https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-ergopad-redux-heel-daily-life-banner-logo-web_1f8505d0-1be0-4428-87d1-fdbd4d8e8c88_grande.jpg?resize=600%2C180&#038;ssl=1" alt="causes heel pain" class="wp-image-28259" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-ergopad-redux-heel-daily-life-banner-logo-web_1f8505d0-1be0-4428-87d1-fdbd4d8e8c88_grande.jpg?w=600&amp;ssl=1 600w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-ergopad-redux-heel-daily-life-banner-logo-web_1f8505d0-1be0-4428-87d1-fdbd4d8e8c88_grande.jpg?resize=400%2C120&amp;ssl=1 400w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-ergopad-redux-heel-daily-life-banner-logo-web_1f8505d0-1be0-4428-87d1-fdbd4d8e8c88_grande.jpg?resize=430%2C129&amp;ssl=1 430w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-ergopad-redux-heel-daily-life-banner-logo-web_1f8505d0-1be0-4428-87d1-fdbd4d8e8c88_grande.jpg?resize=150%2C45&amp;ssl=1 150w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></figure>

<h1 class="wp-block-heading">CAUSES OF PAIN IN THE HEEL</h1>

<p>Pain in the heel is a direct result of overloading the feet. This comes from excessive stress on the foot, in particular the ankle, which over time can lead to degeneration of the heel bone. The more common causes of this overloading include:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>INTENSE PHYSICAL ACTIVITY&nbsp;</strong></li>
</ul>

<p>Occupations or sports that put excessive pressure on the feet where the person is standing constantly increase the risk. People working in the hospitality and retail industry are particularly vulnerable.</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>RIGOROUS SPORTING ACTIVITIES AND TRAINING</strong></li>
</ul>

<p>Athletes who engage in high-intensity sports like&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bauerfeind.com.au/pages/best-ankle-braces-for-rugby" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">rugby</a>&nbsp;and football are more likely to cause repeated stress to the ankle.&nbsp;Inflammation of the tendon plate in the foot due to repeated stress to the foot.</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>HEREDITARY AND PRE-EXISTING CONDITIONS</strong>
<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Certain genetic predispositions can increase the risk of pain in the heel. Rheumatic, Circulatory and inflammatory diseases in particular lead to higher risk.</li>

<li>Other conditions affecting the heel like Heel spurs, can cause pain in the heel. Bone growths on the heel bone’s surface alter the structure of the bone and can significantly impact a patient’s mobility and quality of life.</li>

<li>Being&nbsp;<strong>obese/overweight</strong>&nbsp;places an excess burden on the feet and in the long term can lead to degeneration of the heel as well as other parts of the foot.</li>
</ul>
</li>
</ul>

<h1 class="wp-block-heading">HEEL PAIN SYMPTOMS</h1>

<p>Long term wear and tear of the foot due to constant overload under excess stress leads to inflammation of the heel bone. A patient develops pain in the heel which gets worse with time. Some of the commonly known symptoms along that progression include:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Slight pain is common in the morning or after long periods of inactivity. This is known as “<strong>start-up</strong>” pain. The symptoms tend to go away during the day.</li>

<li>Pain in the heel is&nbsp;<strong>degenerative</strong>. As the disease progresses the symptoms tend to get amplified, and a patient’s pain will become more pronounced and persist through the day.</li>

<li>The skin surrounding the affected area begins to feel sore and becomes red. This can lead to&nbsp;<strong>inflammation</strong>&nbsp;in the lower leg as well.</li>

<li>In the long term, the patient’s foot will begin to feel stiff and their&nbsp;<strong>mobility</strong>&nbsp;is severely&nbsp;<strong>restricted</strong>. There is a sharp pain in the heel even without the application of stress.</li>

<li>In chronic cases, there might be a risk of calcium build up on the heel bone leading to bone growths that cause heel spurs.</li>
</ul>

<h1 class="wp-block-heading">DIAGNOSIS OF PAIN IN THE HEEL</h1>

<p>A&nbsp;<strong>podiatrist or&nbsp;orthopedic&nbsp;doctor</strong>&nbsp;is the best person to seek advice from when experiencing pain in the heel.</p>

<p>A thorough physical and patient history helps them to understand the risk factors on an individual basis.</p>

<p>Sophisticated imaging technology like<strong>&nbsp;X-rays</strong>&nbsp;can be used to determine the location and progression of the bone growths on the heel bone.</p>

<p>This imaging combined with a doctor’s analysis can lead to an accurate diagnosis.</p>

<h1 class="wp-block-heading">HEEL PAIN TREATMENT</h1>

<p>Treatment for heel pain is centered&nbsp;around alleviating the symptoms and taking measures to prevent worsening of the condition. A useful guide that has been proven effective is:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><em>RELIEVE THE FOOT &#8211; PAIN RELIEF FOR HEEL PAIN</em>
<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>It is crucial to relieve the foot from the excess stress it is under. Use of comfortable and well-padded shoes every day helps to provide ample support and prevent undue stress on the foot.</li>

<li>Sturdy footwear can also help to practice healthy proprioception which has long term benefits.</li>

<li>Weight and obesity are risk factors that can be addressed in a patient’s day to day life. A healthier low carb diet alongside regular exercise can help the patient to lose weight.</li>

<li>Reducing the strain on the feet like this goes a long way to relieving heel pain.</li>
</ul>
</li>
</ul>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><em>PRESCRIBED MEDICATION</em>
<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>When there is significant inflammation in the feet, patients find it very beneficial to use prescribed anti-inflammatory and analgesics. Mild cases are often managed conservatively with such treatment.</li>

<li>In advanced patients with chronic symptoms, cortisone injections have proven to be effective. These measures allow patients to alleviate pain and go about their daily lives.</li>

<li>However there are risks associated with the regular use of Cortisone injections including infections, and the procedure is not particularly comfortable and may not be worth the discomfort.</li>
</ul>
</li>
</ul>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><em>PHYSIOTHERAPY EXERCISES</em></li>
</ul>

<p>It is highly recommended to regularly exercise the muscles in the calf and foot to build strength. Developing these muscles can help reduce the stress on the bone as well as combat the progression of the condition. Multiple exercises&nbsp;a day for a few months can rapidly improve a patient’s symptoms.</p>

<p>Practicing&nbsp;healthy proprioception and prioritizing&nbsp;a good warm-up before any training can go a long way in recovery.</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><em>MEDICAL SHOE INSERTS</em></li>
</ul>

<p>Optimally shaped medical shoe insoles are very effective as both a preventative measure and to slow the degeneration of the Calcaneus (heel bone).</p>

<p>The insoles help protect the foot from excess stress as well as any unnatural movements beyond the natural range of motion, i.e. against overloading and overstretching.</p>

<p>The insoles can also serve as a comfortable cushion for patients with inherent malformations in the structure of the foot.</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><em>SURGICAL INTERVENTION</em>
<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Only in rare cases of heel spurs does surgery become necessary. Most cases of the condition are managed conservatively with insoles and physiotherapy.</li>

<li>Some patients might require surgery to correct the excess bone growth to restore structure and mobility to the foot.</li>

<li>Surgery may appear to be an attractive solution to the pain in the heel, however, it is a risky procedure and is usually the last resort to provide relief to a patient.</li>
</ul>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>BEST INSOLES FOR HEEL PAIN</strong></h2>

<p>Medical grade shoe inserts like&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bauerfeind.com.au/products/viscospot-heel-cushion" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Bauerfeind’s ViscoSpot heel cushion&nbsp;</a>and the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bauerfeind.com.au/products/ergopad-redux-heel-2" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">ErgoPad Redux Heel 2 insole</a>&nbsp;are designed to alleviate the symptoms of pain in the heel and have been shown to be incredibly effective in this capacity. The insert is designed specifically to adapt to a patient’s foot shape and provide a custom fit.</p>

<h1 class="wp-block-heading">HOW DOES THE VISCOSPOT HEEL CUSHION HELP HEEL PAIN?</h1>

<p>The&nbsp;<strong>ViscoSpot</strong>&nbsp;has three different densities in its construction.</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>The inner heel cushion<strong>&nbsp;takes the pressure off the heel</strong>&nbsp;and acts as a&nbsp;<strong>shock absorber.&nbsp;</strong></li>

<li>It is surrounded by a firmer pad that helps to&nbsp;<strong>relieve the tendon</strong>&nbsp;on the sole of the foot.</li>

<li>The outer edge is made of a stronger material to support the foot during movement and provide stability.</li>
</ul>

<p>Anatomically shaped to your heel, it cushions each step and gently redistributes the pressure, allowing for regular walking by alleviating the symptoms.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="480" height="480" src="https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-viscospot-visco-insoles-web-gb_large.jpg?resize=480%2C480&#038;ssl=1" alt="for sharp pain in heel" class="wp-image-28258" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-viscospot-visco-insoles-web-gb_large.jpg?w=480&amp;ssl=1 480w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-viscospot-visco-insoles-web-gb_large.jpg?resize=300%2C300&amp;ssl=1 300w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-viscospot-visco-insoles-web-gb_large.jpg?resize=150%2C150&amp;ssl=1 150w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-viscospot-visco-insoles-web-gb_large.jpg?resize=430%2C430&amp;ssl=1 430w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-viscospot-visco-insoles-web-gb_large.jpg?resize=50%2C50&amp;ssl=1 50w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-viscospot-visco-insoles-web-gb_large.jpg?resize=100%2C100&amp;ssl=1 100w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-viscospot-visco-insoles-web-gb_large.jpg?resize=96%2C96&amp;ssl=1 96w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-viscospot-visco-insoles-web-gb_large.jpg?resize=460%2C460&amp;ssl=1 460w" sizes="(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px" /></figure>

<p>The&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bauerfeind.com.au/products/viscospot-heel-cushion" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">ViscoSpot</a>&nbsp;also works well as a preventative of heel pain and is very suitable for people who have high amounts of pressure on their heels over the day</p>

<h1 class="wp-block-heading">HOW DOES THE ERGOPAD REDUX HEEL 2 INSOLE HELP HEEL PAIN?</h1>

<p>The&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bauerfeind.com.au/products/ergopad-redux-heel-2" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">ErgoPad Redux Heel 2&nbsp;</a>is made with three slim layers to provide optimal relief to heel pain and issues. Using a specially designed fan shape spring system, it redistributes pressure from the heel to the rest of the foot, from first to the last step. It is a very thin insole able to be placed into your existing shoes without discomfort.</p>

<p>The soft foam&#8217;s excellent cushioning properties work with the synthetic core to relieve the painful heel with every step you take. The tear-shaped notch in the core under the heel absorbs the foots impact when you take a step.</p>

<p>The&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bauerfeind.com.au/products/ergopad-redux-heel-2" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">ErgoPad Redux Heel 2&nbsp;</a>also corrects misalignment&nbsp;and stimulates muscles by&nbsp;returning the foot to its natural position and mechanical stress on the heel bone. Additionally,&nbsp;the sensorimotor spots incorporated into the bottom surface&nbsp;stimulates the muscles and therefore also support the foot arches.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="480" height="480" src="https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-ergopad-redux-heel-2-frost-green-plastic-insoles-free-web-gb_large.jpg?resize=480%2C480&#038;ssl=1" alt="best foot insole for heel pain" class="wp-image-28257" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-ergopad-redux-heel-2-frost-green-plastic-insoles-free-web-gb_large.jpg?w=480&amp;ssl=1 480w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-ergopad-redux-heel-2-frost-green-plastic-insoles-free-web-gb_large.jpg?resize=300%2C300&amp;ssl=1 300w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-ergopad-redux-heel-2-frost-green-plastic-insoles-free-web-gb_large.jpg?resize=150%2C150&amp;ssl=1 150w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-ergopad-redux-heel-2-frost-green-plastic-insoles-free-web-gb_large.jpg?resize=430%2C430&amp;ssl=1 430w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-ergopad-redux-heel-2-frost-green-plastic-insoles-free-web-gb_large.jpg?resize=50%2C50&amp;ssl=1 50w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-ergopad-redux-heel-2-frost-green-plastic-insoles-free-web-gb_large.jpg?resize=100%2C100&amp;ssl=1 100w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-ergopad-redux-heel-2-frost-green-plastic-insoles-free-web-gb_large.jpg?resize=96%2C96&amp;ssl=1 96w, https://i0.wp.com/parzt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/bauerfeind-ergopad-redux-heel-2-frost-green-plastic-insoles-free-web-gb_large.jpg?resize=460%2C460&amp;ssl=1 460w" sizes="(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px" /></figure>

<p>The entire construction results in a comfortable and relieving insole that is suitable for wear all day, no matter how long you’re on your feet.</p>
